Prior bookings

Make sure your holiday is well planned so that you feel safe while taking your family to new places. It is important to book the homestays and cars beforehand. Also, when you’re planning activities like cycling, river rafting or skiing, you should book the time for everything beforehand. No matter how good you are as an independent traveller, being with a family is a matter of huge responsibility. You will never want to be in a situation you’re not prepared for. Prior booking gives you a clear idea of how the trip is going to be and what to expect.

Alternative plans

You never know what nature has in store for you or how much adventure your family is ready to get exposed to. So even if your family members are quite sure of getting into adventure holiday this time, don’t forget to have a plan B. The alternative plan always helps in case of an emergency. Even if you are fully aware of the area it doesn’t mean the whole trip is under control. An emergency can occur anytime and that is when the alternative plans will always come handy and not just one, keep a couple of other plans as well to choose from depending on the situation.

Carry first Aid

First Aid is useful even for a small cut. Though we hope that you may never come across the need for a First Aid kit, there is no harm in keeping one in the bag. A first aid kit must include antiseptic wipes, cotton balls and a few basic medicines for the trip. You can consult doctors in case of choosing the medicines which you should carry for your family adventure trip. If you have a child in the group there must be some particular medicines that you must have in the kit. A bandage, tampons, medicated scissors can be very useful when needed.

Try food wisely

It is a tempting idea to go to different places and try food that you have never tasted before. But do that wisely. It can be a good idea to speak to your tour guide for recommendations. They will have a good idea of where and what to eat and more importantly what not to eat. Abide by the eating rules set by the tour guide because the guide acts like a guardian in the places you’re not familiar with. It is better not to take unnecessary risks while travelling with your family.

Document the memories

Memories are made for a lifetime. But if you are planning an adventure trip with children make sure the little ones get to document the experience for future. Provide a small camera or a diary so that the documentation becomes easier for them.

Maintaining a contact diary

Keep a contact diary for everyone. The diary or note should contain the contact details of the family members. This is important because in the event one of your family members needing help, the contact details are provided easily. Also, add the contact detail of a person who is not on the trip in case of poor – no signal. If you are visiting places where mobile connectivity is poor, the one who is in their hometown can be easily contacted without any problem.

See the doctor

Paying a visit to the doctor is also very important especially before departure. It is important to know from the doctor about what precautions to be taken when you visiting places of extreme climates. Moreover, it is also important to keep any vaccines up to date.

Connect with the officials

Keep your official contact details and emergency contacts easily available. Make sure you inform the foreign affair officials before going on an adventure holiday in a separate country. This is mainly to keep the government in the loop so that you don’t face any trouble in a foreign country with your family. This way the government will have an idea about your whereabouts and itinerary of the route taken.

Welcoming cultures

Make sure you embrace the idea of the existence of different cultures. It is important for them to know beforehand what he can expect from the place he/she is going to visit. A prior idea of the place will allow children to understand the place more easily after visiting. Teach them how to accept others’ cultures with an open mind. This will help them to grow as a more acceptable human being and it will also shape the character of the child who is getting exposed to new cultures for the first time.

Aged members and their safety

Aged members of the family need some extra care while going on an adventure holiday. Most of them have a regular dose of medicines prescribed by the doctors, make sure you carry them all. Moreover, they are more prone to accidents, right equipment for all the activities are a must. Show them where they are going and prepare them for the new experience. It is always good to keep them aware of the places they are going to.

Keep it simple

The key to a safe and healthy adventure holiday is to keep it simple. Keep the itinerary simple yet eventful so that the kids get to enjoy the holiday. Even for the elders, simple adventures can give them the confidence to come back for another new adventure. You surely won’t want this one to be your last adventure holiday with your family, will you?
